The Unit One module is intended to help students understand the role of the surgical technologist, and other team members, and define the “scope of practice” for a surgical technologist.

Learning Outcomes

This module will help students:

• Describe the role of a surgical technologist as a member of the sterile team.

• Compare and contrast the roles of the OR team members.

• List the daily duties of the surgical technologist.

• Identify and define common prefixes, word roots, combining elements and suffixes used in medical terms.

• Determine the meaning of a medical term based upon the understanding of its parts.
